Transitions® lenses use photochromatic technology which activates when exposed to UV, and de-activates when UV is removed. The amount of UV the lenses are exposed to will impact the level of activation or darkness. This is why in conditions such as partial sunlight, shade and low light and on overcast days Transitions® lenses are not as dark as they are in direct sunlight. In these lower light conditions you still have protection from UV and glare with the lens darkness optimised per your surroundings. Wearers can personalise their frame and express their style with Transitions® lenses, which are hassle free eliminating the need to carry sunglasses.

Do Transitions® lenses filter blue light?

Transitions® Signature® GEN 8™ lenses filter up to 20% of blue light indoors and over 87% of blue light outdoors. Blue light is calculated between 380nm and 460nm, across materials and colours.

Do Transitions® go dark in the car?

Windscreens block UV ray and most photochromatic lenses are activated by UV. Transitions® Signature® GEN 8™ has limited activation behind the windscreen, where as a static lens remains completely clear with no darkness at all.

Transitions® XTRActive® is an ideal solution if you want activation in the car – they darken up to a category 2 sunglass behind the windscreen and are the darkest lens in full sun.

Do Transitions® go dark in hot temperatures?

All photochromatic lens darkness reduces in hot temperatures.
Transitions® Signature® GEN 8™ lenses are less temperature dependant than previous generations, meaning they perform well in all temperature conditions.

If living in a hot climate, consider Transitions® XTRActive®. It is the darkest of the Transitions® lenses and least temperature dependant – even in very hot temperatures.

Do Transitions® lenses fade back quickly indoors?

Yes. Transitions® Signature® GEN 8™ lenses are our most responsive technology and are up to 3 minutes faster to fadeback indoors than Transitions® Signature® Lenses.

Are Transitions® lenses clear indoors?

Indoors and at night Transitions® Signature® GEN 8™ lenses are fully clear. They appear even clearer with some coatings.

Transitions® XTRActive® has a slight tint indoors, it’s important to experience in its unactivated phase. The slight tint is valued by light sensitive wearers as it may reduce glare from indoor lighting environments.

Will patients pay extra for Transitions® lenses?

On average, glasses are updated once every two years, that’s around 100 weeks.

With Transitions® costing $130 extra, this amounts to just over $1 per week.

Considering the performance, automatic glare reduction, UV blockage and selective blue light filtering this represents exceptional value for money.
