Problems with vision may impact learning.

Eighty per cent of childhood learning is visual* yet the Australian Department of Health and Welfare found that eye disorders are one of the most common long term health problems experienced by children. More than 660,000 Australian school aged children have some form of undetected vision defect**, but most aren’t aware of the vision issue. They presume the way they see the world is normal, allowing the vision problem to go easily undetected.

If students have difficulties seeing what's on the blackboard, they're far more likely to become frustrated with the whole learning process. Consequently, they’re more likely to under perform or even misbehave at school.

It’s recommended that a child is taken for an eye examination by the age of three and every two years after (unless their optometrist advises otherwise), but most children only have an eye test when their parents think there’s something wrong, and that may be too late.

Earn books while promoting eye health.

OPSM’s Eye Love Books program can help you earn books for your school library, whilst ensuring your students see clearly in the process.

By simply having an eye test by one of our experienced optometrists at their local OPSM store, students will earn $5 worth of books for their school. If 100 school students have an eye test, your school will receive $500 worth of books#. It’s that simple! Even better, if a student has a valid Medicare card and hasn’t had an eye test in the past two years, the eye test shouldn’t cost them a thing.
